Administrator independent of religions: Nowadays we talk
about secularism. Shivaji was truly a secular king. He maintained peace with
the Muslim rulers. In his royal army, there were 1.5 lakh soldiers. Among those
soldiers, there were 66,000 Muslim soldiers. As a Muslim, he was quite devoted
to his religion.
Father of Modern Indian Navy: Shivaji felt the need for a
navy. For this reason, he built fort at the coastal areas. He created naval
soldiers separately. He had aimed to protect the Konkan Islands of Maharashtra.
The ancient past has been remembered in the Forts like Vijay forts and Sindhu
Forts.
Shivaji respected women significantly: He did not tolerate sexual
exploitation of women or torture of women. He controlled the injustice on women
strictly. He learnt to respect women from Jijamata. He gave orders to the
soldiers not to torture women. If anybody disobeyed rules, they were given severe
tough punishment.
How Shivaji escaped from detention at Panhala: In the Panhala
fort, Shivaji was detained by the soldiers of Siddhi Jouhar. To mislead them, he
used Barber Shiva Nahvi. Barber looked like Shivaji. He arranged two
palanquins. In one palanquin, Barber was present. The soldiers of Siddi
followed him. Shivaji escaped using the other palanquin.
Shivaji is also the leader of obedient army: Before Shivaji,
their father fought along with general people and farmers. Those people used to
fight for the king in the dry season. Shivaji first formed the dedicated army.
Along with regular training throughout the year, he gave salary to the
soldiers.
Defeat of Afzhal Khan: For meeting Afzhal Khan, Shivaji
needed time. Adil Shah was the head of army of Khan. According to the conditions of Shah, one sword
and one flower can be carried. The arrangement was made in that way. But
Shivaji had fear that there might be attack. He wore a protective jacket inside
the clothes. The left hand had concealed tiger nails. The sword of Afzhal Khan
did not harm him significantly. Afzhal Khan was struck by the tiger claws.
Started guerilla war: Shivaji was known as Mountain Rat. He
knew his area like the palm of his hand. He started the guerilla war.
Fled from Agra: Shivaji fled easily escaping the attention.
He fled from Agra in the same way. Aurangzeb made him captive within his court.
Other than fighting for Afghan soldiers, there was no other way. He took the
permission to send fruits and sweets to a temple at Agra. The sweets were sent
using big boxes. He entered one box in a particular day and fled from the fort.
Kind king: He was regarded as a benevolent king among the
people. Even when the enemies wanted to resign, he showed benevolence.
Above all, the nation will respect King Shivaji forever. The
respect bestowed on Shivaji is for the countrymen. He inspired the Indians to
fight for their motherland.
